BIOGRAPHY
Johnny Clark was the very definition of a working comic. Sharp, dependable, and always in demand. A proud Water Rat and cherished member of the entertainment community, Johnny gave his life to laughter, lifting rooms and spirits wherever he performed.
Based in Essex, Johnny became a well-known figure across the UK club and cabaret scene, particularly remembered for his long-standing role as host at the Kings Club on Canvey Island. His style was warm, cheeky, and full of heart. He was the kind of comic who could read a room instinctively and keep the laughter rolling without ever crossing the line.
He was also widely respected as one of the best compere in the business. Whether hosting a club night, charity gala or golf day, Johnny had a gift for bringing people together, making everyone feel welcome and steering the show with skill and wit. A regular figure at events for the Comedians Golfing Society, he brought in fellow stars like Kenny Lynch and Bobby Davro to help raise thousands for local and national charities.
Offstage, Johnny was just as generous. He gave time to dozens of causes, helped organise fundraising events, and was known for his kindness, professionalism and big heart. Behind the jokes was a man who truly cared.
He remained an active part of the Grand Order of Water Rats, where he was remembered by fellow Rats as not only a talented entertainer, but a deeply likeable and caring friend. His passing on 19 January 2021, due to COVID-19, was a great loss to everyone who knew him, both in the business and beyond.
Johnny Clark brought light and laughter wherever he went. His legacy isn’t just in the jokes he told, but in the lives he touched, the money he helped raise, and the warmth he left behind. A true gentleman of variety, now taking a well-earned bow beyond the curtain. Never forgotten.
