Buddy Greco (14 August 1926 – 10 January 2017), born Armando Joseph Rudolph Greco in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was an American singer and pianist whose career spanned several decades across music, television, and live performance.
He began performing at a young age and, as a teenager, worked with the band of Benny Goodman, gaining early professional experience as a pianist and vocalist. This foundation led to a successful solo career, during which he became known for his smooth vocal style and accomplished piano playing.
Greco achieved international recognition with recordings such as The Lady Is a Tramp, which became closely associated with him. His repertoire drew heavily from the Great American Songbook, and he performed widely in major venues and on television, establishing himself as a popular figure in both the United States and the United Kingdom.
In later years, he spent a significant period living and working in the UK, where he continued to perform and record. His versatility allowed him to move comfortably between jazz, swing, and popular standards, maintaining a consistent presence in live entertainment.
Buddy Greco died on 10 January 2017 at the age of 90. His long career as a singer and pianist, along with his international appeal, secured his reputation as an enduring figure in popular music.
