John Randolph Sutton

Blue Collar

John Randolph Sutton, PTG, RoY 1981
Rat Register Number: 723, initiated 27 April 1980
John had an impressive show business pedigree; his father, Gerry, being a musician, and his grandfather no less than the famous light comedian Randolph Sutton - he who first brought the song "On Mother Kelly's Doorstep" to the public domain.
John began his career as a singer, but he added humour to the act and was soon prominent as an entertainer in clubs and theatres country wide, regularly appearing in pantomime and summer seasons.
He became a leading light in the leisure industry, particularly as the entertainments manager of several holiday sites. His agency, JRS Ents., handled the booking of acts for most of the venues along the East Coast for many years.
Right up to his unexpected and very sad demise, John was involved in his Brother Rat Kenny Cantor's show "Veterans of Variety", in which he paid tribute to his grandfather and other legendary artistes such as Al Jolson.
He was also a teacher of salsa and line dancing.
John was a warm and endearing personality who was highly popular amongst his many friends.
His marriage to Rowena produced their son, Jamie.
