Water Rat number 767 - King Rat in 1999

(Note: the unusual spelling of his first name arose from a typing error when he applied for Equity membership.)

Born in Huddersfield, Yorkshire, Gorden's professional career as an actor commenced for Bolton's Octagon Theatre, undertaking various roles in several productions. He first became nationally known on television in 1969, playing Elsie Tanner's nephew Bernard in Coronation Street.

Also appeared in feature films, notably as "Dimes" in the cinema version of Porridge (1979). True fame came his way when he obtained the role of "Rene Artois", the cafe owner, in BBC's sit-com Allo, Allo, a series which he fronted from 1982 - 92.

His auto-biography, Rene and Me, was released in 1989.
