BIOGRAPHY
John McKenzie’s distinguished career began behind the lens in the music industry as a freelance photographer from 1968 to 1974, with continued work until about 1989. His notable clients included Record Mirror, EMI, Pye, RCA, the BBC, Radio Luxembourg, and a broad network of media and PR partners.
A lifelong devotee of the craft, John followed in the footsteps of his father, Doug McKenzie, a renowned showbusiness photographer, some of whose images John has selected to display alongside his own.
After transitioning from frontline music photography, John managed his own process and printing operation while pursuing personal photography projects, paintings, and artwork. His website includes a chronological photographic catalogue, complete with names, dates, and context, as well as pages featuring personal and artistic works.
In recognition of his contributions to show business and charitable service, John was welcomed into the Grand Order of Water Rats in 2014 and proudly named Rat of the Year in 2016. His photographs of Water Rats events have been donated to the lodge archives, enriching the Order’s visual history.
