Born in Aberystwyth, Wales, Roger enjoyed a most successful and prestigious acting and directing career, winning numerous accolades including a Tony Award and an Olivier Award.
Active in the Royal Shakespeare Company, he also achieved much acclaim for his role in the theatre production of 'The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleb'y.
He became a naturalised American citizen in 1989 and quickly gained a respected reputation on the New York Broadway stage. His work there was highly diverse, including 'The Addams Family' and, most recently, in 'The Visit' (2015) playing opposite Chita Rivera.
His numerous film roles included Mel Brooks' 'Robin Hood; Men in Tights' (1993), 'Frida' (2002) and 'The Prestige' (2006), but he became best known for his television work; notably playing Lord John Marbury in 'West Wing' and Robin Colcard in 'Cheers'.
He married his partner, writer/producer Rick Elice, in 2011.
